It may seem a bit risky to think I need to let go of rules in order to get results.

It may seem a bit risky to think I need to let go of rules in order to get results, but it is so true. I know this myself as a business owner. I follow many successful entrepreneurs and take courses in marketing, branding, business growth and more. They have wonderful things to offer but, I always seem to get stuck someplace along the way when implementing strategies from all of these programs. As a coach, I question myself as to what is this resistance about. I work with my own coaches and this is a common topic. I wonder if I am procrastinating due to some inner fear I have. Often that is part of the problem. I, like many of you, fear failure, the judgment of others and fear that I am not enough. I work regularly on leaning into these fears and loosening their grip on me. I have had good success around this. But there has always been another block that has prevented my forward movement that I haven’t been able to identify until recently. It’s my resistance to following all the “rules” laid out in these programs.

The rules begin to fade into the background as an open mindset blooms.

I am not saying learning rules and important foundational strategies in any area aren’t important. They are. But once a good grasp of the foundation of something is learned I have realized that it is then time to move into our own uniqueness and make whatever we are learning our own. I talk about this with my riding students all the time. It is important to learn the basics of riding position and technique but it is also important to develop feel and understand what outcome it is we desire. What is the purpose of all of the skills? It’s not just to learn the skills. It is deeper than that. In riding it is to get the best performance we can from our horse with the least resistance and most ease. In order to do that a rider needs to listen to the horse and adjust aids and techniques accordingly, making mistakes and learning lessons along the way. This allows a rider to develop a unique feel that is all their own. The rules begin to fade into the background as an open mindset blooms. The rules don’t go away, they just aren’t screaming out loud saying “don’t try something new and different.”

Learn to move past the rules in everything you do and get the results YOU desire!

That is my huge epiphany I have recently realized around my business strategies. I have learned many good foundational strategies and skills in all things business. I have watched others and gotten too caught up in the “comparison game,” thinking,” How can I possibly do what they do and do things like they do?” I now realize I don’t need to be like them. I need to be like me and take my unique skills and abilities and all my learning and create a business that is inherently me. Learning more is no good if I can’t take action on what I know already and develop a feel for what it is I want my business to be. Riding, business and life really run in parallel.  Learn to move past the rules in everything you do and get the results YOU desire!
